Manchester United have completed their five-match preseason tour of the United States. In that time, they played in front of 288,450 people, with an average game attendance of 57,690. That average attendance would have been significantly higher if it wasn’t for Major League Soccer deciding to play the MLS All-Star Game at Red Bull Arena. If the game had been played at the New Meadowlands, it would have undoubtedly seen a sold-out stadium of 82,566 (which would have increased the average tour attendance to an incredible 68,851).

Still, the 2011 summer tour of the United States can definitely be seen as a success for Manchester United as well as raising the profile of the Premier League in the United States.

It may be quite some time before Manchester United return to the States. Many expect them to tour Asia for the next couple of summers. But the summer of 2011 will definitely be remembered as a massive success for the Red Devils in the States.
