What a great night of action in the first round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup as the lower levels showed what they are made of. Some sides got their first action in this domestic club competition and dominated their opponents, but the one match that was very exciting to follow was in Western Pennslyvania. The NPSL’s Chattanooga FC traveled to face the USL Pro’s Pittsburgh Riverhounds in what would be an exciting finish.

A first half goal from Ivan Heredia in the 14th minute gave the Tennessee side the early led and after the half, a second goal from Mark Beattie gave the cushion in the 55th minute. But somehow late in the second half the Riverhounds flicked the switch and came back with two big goals from Jason Yeisley & Stefan Lundberg that forced the match into extra time.

Nine minutes into the first half of extra time Jeremy Deighton converts the match winner and the Riverhounds down by two goals, comes back to equalize and wins it in extra time. In another match that involves two Pennsylvania sides, alot of action on the field and a bit of a scrum that forces the on-field officiall to send a man off. The Reading United traveled to the Skyline Sports Complex in Harrisburg to face the City Islanders.

Reading United dominated their four qualifying games to reach the first round and it looked like they were goiing to do that when they got the lead in the 35th minute when David Rodriguez converted his goal. It looked like Reading was dominating till a scrum insued between the two sides. Steven Okai started the fray and was shown a straight red card in the 53rd minute. Reading was down to ten men and the City Islanders took the advantage.

Two goals scored within four minutes as J.T. Noone equalized in the 86th minute then Sainey Touray converts the match winner that moves the City Islanders into the second round and they will host the Rochester Rhinos back at Skyline Sports Complex.
