Brad Friedel will be playing for Tottenham Hotspur next season, according to Fox Soccer sources.

The former Aston Villa goalkeeper is expected to be unveiled Friday at White Hart Lane as the newest Tottenham goalkeeper. The American goalkeeper will be signed by Spurs on a free transfer. Heurelho Gomes, the current number one at Spurs, is reportedly in talks with AC Milan.

Friedel, who is recognized as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, was a transfer target of Liverpool, West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham Hotspur, but the Lilywhites won the race to sign the American.

The American will help solidify Spurs at the back who were particularly guilty of letting in sloppy goals courtesy of Gomes during the 2010-11 Premier League season.

The news about Friedel heading to White Hart Lane was first reported by The Daily Mail newspaper in England on Sunday night. However, Fox Soccer was the first to report Thursday night that a deal had been agreed.

What do you think of Friedel moving from Aston Villa to Tottenham? Do you think he’ll still be able to perform at the highest level in the Premier League? Can he help propel Spurs up the league table this season? Share your opinions in the comments section below.
