Last week was a pivotal week in the battle to remain in the Championship, as Preston and Scunthorpe to closed the gap between themselves and the last team with a Championship life raft, Crystal Palace to just three points.

Despite appointing a manager with an unfortunate surname, Alan Knill’s Scunthorpe side must be brimming with confidence with two wins out of three, the kind of form that could give the Irons a shot at avoiding relegation.

These have not been easy games either top of the table Queens Park Rangers were blown away before a tame defeat to high flying Reading was remedied by victory in a six pointer against Crystal Palace.

The same confidence can be attributed to Preston who have got 15 points from their last 10 games with victories against Scunthorpe, Swansea, Coventry and Sheffield United which is far from relegation form.

Crystal Palace fans must now be looking anxiously at the league table as they have seen a seemingly unassailable lead chipped away at by not one but two rivals.

Both teams have made what was looking like a humdrum end to the season at the bottom of the Championship more exciting or agonising depending on whether you’re a neutral or fan of one of the teams involved.

Before the next round of fixtures ChampionshipTalk will be analysing the run ins of all the sides involved but in the meantime do you think Preston or Scunthorpe can overhaul Crystal Palace and scramble to safety?
