Newcastle United has announced its third and final match of its 2011 summer tour of the United States. Previously Newcastle had announced friendlies against Sporting Kansas City (July 20) and Columbus Crew (July 26). Now the Northeast club has sandwiched in a friendly in between those two dates when it plays Orlando City on July 23 in Orlando, Florida.

“We are delighted to announce that Newcastle United, one of the biggest teams in the English Premier League, will be our guests for part of their pre-season training in July in Orlando, Florida,” said Orlando City Owner/President Phil Rawlins. “The team will spend several days training here before playing Orlando City in an international exhibition game on Saturday, July 23rd.”

Orlando City is a member of the USL Professional Division, the third tier in the United States. The team, founded in 2010, plays its home games at the Citrus Bowl, a stadium with a capacity of 70,000 in downtown Orlando. The Citrus Bowl hosted several World Cup games in 1994.

Orlando City has close ties to Stoke City. Rawlins is a board member of the Potters. In 2010, Rawlins moved the Austin Aztex organization to Orlando, where the club was formed. Orlando City retained Adrian Heath, the former Stoke City player as manager of Orlando City.

Ticket details for the Orlando City against Newcastle United friendly will be announced next week.
