With it being February the league is just over halfway complete. Accordingly, I thought I’d choose the eleven players that have impressed me the least this Premier League season. Consider it a mid-term report of sorts.

Could your club or favorite player be one of the 11 featured?

Find out now:

  • Richard Kingson (Blackpool)

The former Wigan keeper was part of the much-loved Ghana team in last summer’s World Cup. Unfortunately for him he’s consistently made basic goalkeeping errors most recently in the 3-1 home defeat to relegation threatened West Ham, allowing Victor Obinna’s shot to squirm through his hands.

  • Marco Angeleri (Sunderland)

An Argentine full back signed for £1.5m many heralded him as a bargain signing by Steve Bruce. When claims he was homesick surfaced early on, the future didn’t look bright. He has since gone on to make only two appearances and message boards have been littered with reports of his incredibly poor showings for the club’s reserve side.

  • James Perch (Newcastle United)

The one time captain of Nottingham Forest has looked chronically out of his depth in the top flight. The one real blight of Chris Hughton’s reign at the Magpies, it’s likely he’ll be shown the door in the summer.

  • Winston Reid (West Ham United)

Proof that the World Cup should not be used as a form of scouting. A hero for New Zealand despite representing Denmark at youth level, he scored a dramatic equalizer for the Kiwis against Slovakia. The athletic centre back cost Avram Grant £4m from FC Midtjylland and has since played a mere four times.

  • Paul Konchesky (Liverpool, now Nottingham Forest)

He became the embodiment of everything Liverpool fans hated about Roy Hodgson. In response, his own mother took to Facebook to defend her boy with a rather hilarious rant. January saw a loan move to Nottingham Forest and what is surely the end of his Liverpool career.

  • Christian Poulsen (Liverpool)

Bought to replace Javier Mascherano, an impossible task when you consider how different in style the two are. Looking pedestrian and too slow for the league he finds himself confined to Liverpool’s bench for now and most likely the foreseeable future.

  • Stephen Ireland (Aston Villa, now Newcastle United)

Signed as a makeweight in the James Milner deal many saw this as fantastic business by Aston Villa. He was the playmaker they needed who looked fantastic under Mark Hughes. A host of off field problems and a fallout with manager Gerard Houiller have coincided with his departure albeit on loan to Newcastle, the team he made his Villa debut against.

  • Joe Cole (Liverpool)

Despite early promise at West Ham, the former Chelsea midfielder still struggles to play with any real consistency. A glimmer of his early days in the Europa League have been the only highlight in what’s been a poor start to Cole’s Liverpool career.

  • Christian Riveros (Sunderland)

Steve Bruce’s second Paraguayan signing, Riveros was expected to give Sunderland’s centre of midfield some goals and attacking impetuous. After an impressive goal in the World Cup the club’s fans were rightly excited. Unfortunately the former Cruz Azul midfielder has shown little of that early promise with six of his ten appearances having come from the bench.

  • Maluary Martin (Blackpool)

The Frenchman comes with quite a pedigree. Ex Monaco and capped at youth level for France, he is still yet to even make an appearance for the Tangerines. Thankfully for Blackpool fans he only has a one year deal which looks increasingly unlikely to be renewed.

  • Magaye Gueye (Everton)

Signed from Strasbourg in the summer, the French striker/winger has represented his country at u-21 level. Viewed by many as an exciting French prospect he has still to even make a league appearance for Everton, despite good reports from a pre-season friendly in Australia against Brisbane Roar.

Bonus:

  • Mauro Boselli (Wigan Athletic)

Not for the first time Roberto Martinez looked to bring in a South American striker. Tipped to struggle by the BBC’s Tim Vickery, the man nicknamed ‘Vickipedia’ called it correct. His lowest point for Wigan must have surely come at Upton Park where he missed from the penalty spot. He now finds himself on loan at Genoa just over 6 months after signing.
