Gotze Emerges As Another Jewel In Dortmund's Crown.

Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim ended the weekend with a bang. Let’s get to the results!

Mainz 0 – 2 Borussia Dortmund

Jurgen Klopp’s men are a joy to watch. They pass the ball well, they attack with fluidity, and they pose a number of different threats. They’re also extremely solid defensively. What’s most impressive about them, though, is the way they kept the ball against Mainz. Mainz’s midfield, which is usually so composed, was run a bit ragged by Dortmund. Sven Bender and Nuri Sahin controlled possession, and were able to release Mario Gotze, Shinji Kagawa and Kevin Grosskreutz onto the Mainz back-line with great regularity. Mario Gotze, in particular, was in devastating form. The youngster scored the opener, and then made the second for Lucas Barrios, who really could have had a hat-trick. If Dortmund can keep this up, they’ll be well deserving of the league title. Mainz, on the other hand, will need to quickly get back to winning ways if they want to continue to challenge for a European spot.

TSG Hoffenheim 4 – 0 Hannover 96

Hannover will be disappointed that they let this go so horribly wrong. A win here for Hannover would have taken them to third place, so obviously alot was riding on the result. Unfortunately, after Manuel Schmiedebach got sent off, Hannover were really playing against the odds, and Hoffenheim made them pay just before half-time. Gylfi Sigurdsson, who was signed in the summer from Reading in England’s second division to replace Carlos Eduardo, finally made his Bundesliga mark. He smashed his first goal in just before half-time from outside the box, and got his second three minutes after the restart from the penalty spot when Demba Ba was fouled in the area. Ba scored on 51 minutes, and then Peniel Kokou Mlapa sealed the win for Hoffenheim with just 20 minutes left on the clock. It’s a huge loss for Hannover, and one that they’ll definitely regret. For Hoffenheim, there are definitely some big positives to draw from the win. For one, a star in the making: Gylfi Sigurdsson.
