Youngster Andre Schurrle Blasts His Side To Victory Over Kaiserslautern.

Sunday’s Bundesliga matches saw both Bundesliga new boys, Kaiserslaturern and St. Pauli, lose out away from home. Kaiserslautern travelled to Mainz, while Koln host St. Pauli.

Kaiserslautern have been impressive during their first couple of Bundesliga games, especially during their 2-0 win against Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. Unfortunately, they could not continue their good form away to Mainz despite taking an early lead through Srdjan Lakic. Mainz came back in the second half through goals from Niko Bungert and wonderkid Andre Schurrle, who netted from just outside the box. It’s still early days, so the loss won’t come as too much of a knock for 1. FCK, who will focus on grabbing maximum points during their home matches.

Koln hosted St. Pauli and took the lead early through Taner Yalcin, who smashed home the rebound after a Lukas Podolski thunderbolt rattled the post. St. Pauli had the lion’s share of possession, but did very little in terms of testing the opposition goalkeeper and only registered one shot on target. Not good enough from the Hamburg-based kult club, but they too will look to gain most of their points at home this season to hopefully avoid relegation.

For our next bit of Bundesliga business, Tuesday marks the start of the Champions League group stages, where Werder Bremen will host Tottenham and Schalke will travel to Lyon. Wednesday’s match sees Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich host Serie A runners-up Roma.
