Three more Premier League clubs were in second-round action in the Carling Cup today. Here’s a recap of all of the action.

Fulham 6, Port Vale 0

Continuing the trend of 6-0 scorelines, Fulham routed Port Vale to advance to the third-round of the Carling Cup.

Zolton Gera and Bobby Zamora scored doubles while Clint Dempsey and Moussa Dembele scored their first goals of the season. Gera opened the scoring after just 10 minutes and Dembele marked his debut with a left-footed strike 16 minutes later. Zamora got his first in the 36th minute before Gera completed his brace just before half time to increase the Cottager’s lead to four at the break.

Zamora scored his second just after the hour mark and American international Dempsey completed the route of the League Two side with a 70th minute strike.

Accrington Stanley 2, Newcastle United 3

Newcastle United advanced to the third round of the Carling Cup at the expense of Accrington Stanley in an entertaining match at The Fraser Eagle Stadium.

Ryan Taylor’s long-range strike put the Magpies ahead 36 minutes in before Ray Putterill equalized  just before halftime. But the visitors regained the lead three minutes after the break courtesy of Shola Ameobi’s low strike. Peter Lovenkrands scored the eventual game winner in the 68th minute. Sean Hessey pulled one back for the League Two side in injury time but it was little more than a consolation.

Everton 5, Huddersfield 1

Everton secured their first competitive win of the season with an emphatic win over 10-man Huddersfield.

Marouane Fellaini and Jack Rodwell put the hosts up early with goals in the first 15 minutes. An own goal by John Heitinga halved the deficit but a Jermain Beckford penalty in the 50th minute put the same out of reach. It was the goal for new-signing Beckford, who joined the Toffees from Leeds United over the summer.

Louis Saha and Leon Osman scored in the final 15 minutes to turn a comfortable win for Everton into a route.
