Eriksen Bossed The Midfield For Denmark Against Germany.

Joachim Loew will be disappointed that his side did not come away from this game with a win after being in control for large parts of the match. Goals from Gomez and Helmes put Germany two to the good, but late strikes from Rommedahl and Junker condemned the Germans to a draw when a comfortable win was on the cards.

While the draw comes as a disappointment, there are positives Joachim Loew will be able to take away from the match. Thomas Hitzlsperger had a fine game for Germany and will have put his name back into contention for future national team squads. His through-ball provided Germany’s opening goal, and his passing throughout the match was impressive.

Out wide, Hunt and Marin impressed with their ability to drift inwards and pick a pass or have a shot from outside the box. While they will be competing for a place in the team with Podolski and Mueller, they did do well and they’ll be satisfied with their performances.

Tim Wiese’s display was one to forget as he did little to showcase his talents against Denmark apart from a few good reflex saves. He was especially at fault for Denmark’s second goal, where he was practically rounded by Danish striker Mads Junker.

Denmark had the most impressive player on the field in the form of Christian Eriksen. The young Ajax man has suitors from all of Europe’s biggest clubs, and will surely be completing a move to one of those teams in the near future. Every move Denmark made forward during the match came through him. He absolutely shone in the midfield. His passing and movement off the ball caused problems time and again for Germany’s back-line. Certainly one to look out for in the future.

Despite the draw, Loew will know his side could and should have scored more. The younger players in the side had encouraging performances, and the more experienced heads, like Hitzlsperger and Gomez – who will be kicking himself for missing while one-on-one with Sorensen – were also impressive. Loew will not be too bothered by the result, but should be encouraged by the ability shown by Germany’s youth. With so many younger players still coming through, the future for the German national team looks bright.
