England boss Fabio Capello has named his 23 man squad that will face Hungary on Wednesday at Wembley, England’s first match since their defeat at the hands of Germany in the World Cup. In the squad, Capello has shuffled fourteen players from the England team who featured and ultimately underwhelmed this summer at the World Cup in South Africa.

Full England squad:

GK: Joe Hart, Ben Foster, Paul Robinson – Dropped: Robert Green, David James

DF: Wes Brown, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Michael Dawson, Kieran Gibbs, Phil Jagielka, Glen Johnson, John Terry – Dropped: Jamie Carragher, Rio Ferdinand, Ledley King, Matthew Upson, Stephen Warnock

MF: Gareth Barry, Frank Lampard, Adam Johnson, Steven Gerrard, James Milner, Ashley Young, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere- Dropped: Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Aaron Lennon, Shaun Wright-Phillips

FW: Darren Bent, Wayne Rooney, Carlton Cole, Bobby Zamora – Dropped: Peter Crouch, Jermaine Defoe, Emile Heskey

All in all, a very exciting and new look England squad emblazoned with youth and energy. I for one am extremely pleased with Capello and his decision to call up some very talented young England players in order to lay groundwork for the future of the England team.

Notable inclusions to the squad include Theo Walcott who missed out on what would have been his second World Cup, Adam Johnson, many an England fans pick to play in the 2010 World Cup, and striker Darren Bent, last season’s third leading goal scoring in the Premier League with 24.

Surprisingly left out, at least for now were Joe Cole, Jermain Defoe and Aaron Lennon.

It’s obvious Capello is looking to re-build England with at least one world class player in each position. Rooney up front, Gerrard and or Lampard in midfield, and Ashley Cole in defense. As the young England players get their first taste of senior international experience, it will be what’s left of the old guard that will help nurture the youngsters.

With Euro 2012 qualification fast approaching, what do you think of Capello’s new look England squad?
