Vidic Signs Long Term Deal With Manchester United

Nemanja Vidic has secured his future at Old Trafford with a long-term deal.

Manchester United held off approaches by Real Madrid and AC Milan for the Serbian centre back, who was rumored to be unhappy and Manchester and actively seeking an exit.

“It’s yet to be signed – the paperwork is now being sorted by our lawyers and being checked by Nemanja’s advisors. He’s still away on holiday but the plan is that when he gets back the papers will be signed,” said David Gill, chief executive of Manchester United.

Vidic came to Old Trafford in 2006 via Spartak Moscow and has won three titles with his centre back partner, Rio Ferdinand.

Drogba Undergoes Surgery, Could Miss Start Of Season

A groin strain could prevent Didier Drogba from playing in Chelsea’s Premier League opener against West Brom and the community shield clash with Manchester United.

The star striker and reigning golden boot winner underwent an operation on Friday.

“Didier Drogba successfully underwent minimally invasive surgery yesterday [Friday] on the groin injury that had troubled him for some of last season,” a club statement read. “The decision to perform the procedure after his return from the World Cup was made to optimise his rehabilitation, and he is expected to return to full training in approximately three weeks.”

This is the latest injury blow to the reigning champions who will be without Brazilian defender Alex and Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech for the start of the season.
