Sunderland has unveiled their new home jersey for the 2010-11 season.

With some designs, it makes you wonder how much shirt manufacturers can change the home jersey. With Sunderland, the design of the shirt is so locked down in terms of red and white stripes that there isn’t a lot of creative license available to do anything different. But with Sunderland’s 2010-11 home shirt, Umbro has made a few cosmetic changes such as adding a retro turn-down collar, changing the name of the sponsor and that’s about it.

But looking closer at the shirt, according to Umbro, there are some other changes which include a ‘zig zag’ warp knit design. And the level of craft involved in the new Sunderland shirt can be seen in the club crest, which is embroidered directly onto the garment rather than via a transfer.
