Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben has undoubtedly had a fantastic season with the Champions League runners-up. Robben’s ability to run at defenders and create just as much as he scores, as well as his sympatico relationship with Munich team-mate Franck Ribery, has made Bayern Munich one of the most exciting sides to watch in all of Europe, nevermind just Germany.
Robben scooped 71 percent of the votes, after 241 Bundesliga players were polled. In second place was Wolfsburg’s Edin Dzeko, and third was handed to another Bayern Munich man in the form of Bastian Schweinsteiger, who will be heavily relied on to produce for Germany at this summer’s World Cup tournament in South Africa.
Should Robben emulate his Bayern Munich form at the World Cup, he will certainly be a strong candidate to win the Ballon d’Or. Robben, in his first season with the Bavarian giants, was the team’s top scorer with 16 goals, and he also managed to lay on 7 more in just 24 appearances.
Robben and his Dutch teammates find themselves in Group E at this year’s World Cup, where they will face Denmark, Cameroon and Japan.
