Spurs v West Ham, 1970-71: Video Highlights

While there’s no Premier League matches on until next weekend, here’s another video from yesteryear to show how much the game of English football has changed as well as to give us video evidence of some of the legendary players of England.

The video features first half highlights from the London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United from the 1970-71 season. On the West Ham side is Bobby Moore, Trevor Brooking, Jimmy Greaves, Frank Lampard Sr., Geoff Hurst and others, while the Tottenham squad features Pat Jennings, Steve Perryman, Martin Peters, Alan Mullery, Mike England and many other legends.

The game is from the TV show, The Big Match, featuring Brian Moore as both the presenter and the commentator. One additional note is how interesting it was to hear a section of the crowd singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

    what great memories
i was somewhere in white hart lane that day. for football fans in the u.s.a. some of the men in this clip are all time greats. as a spurs fan it’s sad to see the great jimmy greaves in a west ham shirt he was the best goalscorer ever. alan gilzean, no one could head a ball like gilly. full back cyril knowles had his own pop song, nice one cyril. west ham with bobby moore, trevor brooking, geoff hurst, great players all. no diving, no screaming when tackled, no moaning at the ref, has football changed. i do not know. all i can say is i loved football back then. coys

Cool Video; it reminds me how much I dislike the ‘International breaks’ during club football season. I’ve been grinding my teeth for near two weeks since that miserable loss to Man United last weekend.
    Let’s banish International matches!!
I was desperate this last Saturday, I almost woke up at 4:00 a.m. to catch League Two matches!!!
God Bless, P2P & Sky Sports!!

What a treat to see! Geoff Hurst, Bobby Moore and Mike England all came
to Seattle to play for our Sounders.

What I liked about watching this clip was not only the legends playing on the pitch . but when a foul occurs i didnt see one player make a meal of it like today`s players. also no shirt pulling . and it was much more enjoyable to watch ..thank you for the clip.
