Seattle beat Colorado 1-0 in the last MLS play-in match of the US Open Cup on Tuesday. The win earns Seattle a berth in the US Open Cup. The eight MLS clubs will begin play in the 3rd round, on June 30.

Two of the league’s lowest ranked teams, Columbus and San Jose meet tonight in Columbus. Both clubs will have weekend matches as well.

In contrast, the top two teams in the league, Chicago and Chivas USA meet on Thursday in a matchup of conference leaders. Chivas sits atop the table with one loss while Chicago is the only undefeated team at the 1/3 mark.

After 75 games Chicago is performing at about the same pace as last year, when the Fire had 19 points. They have 18 points this year. Chivas, on the other hand has 10 more points and a 6 point lead over the field.

Good timing for fans, as next week Chivas will lose Kljestan and Bornstein to the USMNT and the Fire will be without Gonzalo Segares(Costa Rica), Blanco(Mexico) and possibly Patrick Nyarko(Ghana).

MLS’er National Team Callups

Gonzalo Segares was called up by Costa Rica.

KC’s Roger Espinoza has been called into the Honduras WCQ camp. TFC’s Amado Guevara has also been called into the Honduras camp.

Chicago: Fire’s Nyarko to get WCQ callup for Ghana?

Chicago: Fire’s Blanco gets WCQ callup for Mexico.

Expect Jaime Moreno to be called up for Bolivia’s June 6 match with Venezuela. DC United play on the 4th vs the Red Bulls.

MLS’ers Brian Ching, Landon Donovan, Sasha Kljestan, Frankie Hejduk, Pablo Mastroenni, Jonathan Bornstein and Marvelle Wynne were called into the USMNT camp for the 2 upcoming World Cup Qualifiers, vs Costa Rica(away) on June 3 and Honduras in Chicago on June 6.

The US Men leave for South Africa June 8 with a 23-man squad for games against Brazil, Italy and Egypt in the Confederations Cup. The three group matches will occur June 15-21. Other than Landon Donovan, is there another MLS’er that’s a lock to join what many expect to be the ‘A’ team in South Africa? Frankie? Sasha? Pablo?

Without Donovan, the Galaxy play TFC on June 6, RSL on the 13’th, and San Jose on the 20th. And should the US progress out of group play, something no one is predicting, the semi-finals are on the 23rd and 24th with the final on the 28th, Landon(and others) would miss another MLS match.
