Images of Aston Villa’s new away football shirt for the 2009-10 season have been released on its website. The new kit is currently available for pre-order and will be officially launched on June 20.

I’m not sure what it is about Nike, but many of their new shirt designs feature pinstripes which I’m not a big fan of — whether it’s the United States men’s national team home strip, the new blue one for Arsenal or other pinstripe designs.

The new Villa away kit is inspired by England, hence the white color and is meant to be a tribute to the history of Aston Villa players who have appeared for the England national team.

Villa’s away kit features a white shirt with a red trim, navy blue shorts and white socks. The shirt features white pinstripes on one side and navy blue pinstripes on the other side.

Love or hate the shirt, Aston Villa and Nike have done an admirable job in promoting the shirt with its When The Nation Calls advertising slogan and When The Nation Calls website.

On the website, there’s a history of all of the Villa players who have earned England caps (as well as downloadable cards for each one), a gallery showing different images of the new kit, an interesting trivia fact about Villa Park in relation to England, and much more.
