Admit it. It’s something that’s happened to you, too. You get psyched about a specific game, maybe it’s a Champions League match. You set the DVR or VCR to record it. You get home and it didn’t record. Or if it did tape, it gets cut off when the match goes to penalties. We’ve all been there, right?

The DVR gods weren’t on my side today as I got home early after feeling sick, deciding to rest in bed to get over my flu, woke up and then discovered that the Manchester United against Inter Milan match hadn’t recorded.

The DVR did tape Barcelona against Lyon, which I wasn’t as excited to watch. Barca eventually won the match 5-2, but many of those goals were gifts from a woeful Lyon who combined horrible marking with poor defending to gift Barcelona some wonderful goalscoring opportunities. Thierry Henry, Lionel Messi, Keita and Samuel Eto’o took care of the rest.

Back to the Man United match, I heard to experience it through the goal highlights which is often not a fair representation of how a game played out. Manchester United looked clinical in front of goal again, but Inter Milan had their chances too with two attempts that cruelly hit the woodwork.

Arsenal did well to go through on penalties against Roma, which means that four of the final eight teams in the Champions League will be English sides. What are the chances of an all England final once again?

  • “UEFA Drops ESPN, And Picks Up Fox Sports Latin America For Champions League Coverage” (Fox Sports). Fox wins the first battle against ESPN in Latin America. Expect Fox and ESPN to square up soon when the bidding concludes for the Premier League TV rights in the United States in the next one to two months.
  • “FA Announces Timing For Wembley FA Cup Semi-Finals” (The Guardian). On U.S. TV, we’ll get Arsenal or Hull City against Chelsea on Saturday, April 18 at 12:15pm ET, and Everton versus Manchester United on Sunday, April 19 at 11am ET. No decision has been made yet regarding which games will be on Fox Soccer Channel or Setanta Sports.
