HD Coming To Fox Soccer Channel

fox soccer channel1 HD Coming To Fox Soccer ChannelIt’s one of the questions I get asked quite often. When will Fox Soccer Channel be available in high definition TV (HDTV)? Until now, there wasn’t a succinct answer, but we finally have good news. Fox Soccer Channel will be in HD by the end of 2010.

Multichannel News, a cable newsletter, broke the news that Fox’s television network group has decided to distribute its broadcast network and all of its cable services in high-definition within two years from now. Fox also plans on upgrading its infrastructure to double its satellite capacity.

This is wonderful news for soccer fans in North America. We got spoiled during Euro 2008 when all of the games on ESPN were in high definition. Once the change happens at Fox Soccer Channel, the only issue will be that not all of the programming is available in high definition. Some Premier League games are, but not all of them.

For Fox, the upgrade to HD will come as a significant cost. For example, its studio in Los Angeles is not wired for high definition, so the upgrades alone at its head office will be substantial.

With Fox making the move within the next two years to switch to high definition broadcasts, the pressure is now on Setanta Sports and GolTV to follow suit.

What do you think of the news, and what programming will you be looking forward to watching in high definition on Fox Soccer Channel? Click the comments link below and let us know.

  1. HD Fan says:

This is a move that is necessary for Fox to stake a claim on the future of football broadcasting. Watching football now versus in HD is like the difference between making love with or without a condom. I'm not going to say 'no', but there's really no comparison. Vision of the field is so much more realistic and the detail is phenomenal.

  2. Tampasoccerfan says:

The comment above was hilarious. And yet, very true. Football on HD is long long overdue!

  3. AtlantaPompey says:

But will they still have the EPL by then? Or will ESPN outbid them?

How many games are currently broadcast in England in HD? Will that number go up in the next two years? Most live sports in America on the four networks and ESPN/TNT/etc are in HD now. Is it that way in England or in Europe in general? If not, will they be moving to that?

  4. hudsonland says:

Except that nowhere in the article does it actually indicate that any matches will be shown in HD. FSC could have an HD feed but still show games in SD, like ESPN[2]HD often does.

  5. Dustin says:

That is great news for people in the US. In Australia Fox Sports currently televise 2-3 games a week in HD from the EPL and reaming are televised in a widescreen 16:9 576i picture, you also have The CC Championship which do around 2-3 games a week in HD as well.

  6. The Gaffer says:

I asked a representative from Fox Soccer Channel for more insight regarding the news, but they have no comment at this time.

    Cheers,
    The Gaffer

  7. eplnfl says:

What FSC will look like program wise in 2010 is clearly up in the air. But once again for those of us who love soccer and have seen it in HD there is nothing like it. FSC takes a lot of abuse from American soccer fans and are never very quick on the draw so to speak but they eventually get around to doing something right. Good news.

  8. Leeciff says:

All EPL matches that are produced to be shown live on Sky Sports (96 matches) and Setanta Sports (48 matches) in the UK is shot in HD.
So that's all the games minus the 3PM Saturday/Sunday kickoffs, which are shot in standard definition widescreen, although BBC and SKY share covering these games and some may well be shot in HD.

The majority of football shown live in the UK is shot in HD – Champions' League, Coca Cola Football League, FA Cup, Carling Cup, Blue Sq Premier, home internationals etc.

  9. Dustin says:

The Setanta games could be shot in HD but correct me if I am wrong but I do believe that Setanta presently has a HD channel up and running

Also the CC Championship currently televises 2-3 games a week in HD

  10. Dustin says:

suppose to say I don't think Setanta has a HD channel up and running in the UK yet

  11. Weston says:

Id rather they make the channels more available before they worry about HD broadcasts…

  12. Leeciff says:

No Setanta HD in the UK (yet) but they use HD equipment so the rest of Europe sees these games on their channels in HD

  13. larryaz says:

Soccer fans in North America are the most tolerant fans in the world. HD soccer programming in North America is so over due, it is pathetic. I am surprised not more people are demanding Fox to make the transition faster. In the original post, FOX bitch about HD being too expensive and “need to upgrade the wire in the studio”. HELLO! That's your problem, not MINE! What a shame. ESPN was broadcasting the Worldcup 2006 in full HD back in – 2006! Fox is now saying HD program won't come until 2010!

So why should we all get stuck with regular definition for another two freaking years? Can ESPN step up and take the broadcast right from Fox? Fox is a bunch of incompetent bearaucrats who doesn't know their asses from a hole in the ground.

I am pretty mad at the situation as you can tell. How hard it is to bring EPL, which is already produced in HD signa, to America? If Animal planet is in HD, if my freaking birthday home video is in HD, we can't even get EPL in HD? What the fuck America?

I hope more soccer fans would come out and say something!

  14. footballer says:

Larry: The name of the sport is football, ok? Maybe you don't know that, so I'll do you teh favor and teach you.

  15. footballfanuk says:

Footballer : what is your point?

  16. footballer says:

Step 1 to becoming a true football fan: Learn and recognise which sport is the true Football.

It's in the Football Fan's Bible

  17. FSC_Lover says:

Larry – as someone IN the broadcast industry, your comments simply REEK of someone who has no effin' clue how the whole thing works. So – here's a small lesson. FOX Sports International works on a shoe-string budget – that includes FSC. Sure – they get revenue from ad sales and paying next to nothing for 'Fox Soccer Report' (and selling ads within FSR) – but it certainly does NOT cover the cost of bringing in the games in HD. To get HD games – double your cost – period.

Now you say ESPN does it so much better. Do they really? I know LOTS of people (Check the Big Soccer boards) who RAIL against ESPN because they don't know anything about footie. Ya – they have the Champions League – but that's Derek Rae and Tommy Smyth sitting in a booth in Bristol, CT watching the game on TV and giving commentary. FSC does the same thing. And while ESPN are viewed as the BIG BOYS of Sports Broadcasting, they recognize the limited revenue stream footie can provide. Why do you think they're STILL humming and hawing about trying for EPL rights? They KNOW it's not lucrative enough to cover the cost of bringing it in. You think they make money on the Champions League? If you do – give your head a good shake. The Champions League is a money loser for ESPN. Thankfully – ESPN makes a crapload of cash off all their other sports so they can offset the operational deficit of bringing in HD games – if they choose.

But don't rail against FSC because they try to balance the books against a sport that doesn't make any money in the US & Canada. I know I'm in the minority but I think they do a FANTASTIC job of trying to grow the sport in North America. And in today's fiscal climate – FSC acting responsibly and NOT biting off more debt than they can chew (while not sacrificing their programming) is a smart move.

If you don't like what they do – there's plenty of other EPL alternatives out there. Oh wait – no there isn't!

Thanks FSC for doing what you do!

  18. efy007 says:

Nice to see that FSC has plans to broadcast in HD! I just got a huge plasma and the games look better on my 36″ because they are SD. BUT, 2 years?! I mean come on guys, you can do better than that….. like maybe the begining of the 2009 season? :)

Hopefully Setanta follows along, of course it would be nice if Comcast Cable carried it too. Might have to swith to Direct TV if Comcast doesnt add Setanta to its line up.

  19. Gaz says:

If the EPL get switched to ESPN you will probably have to tape games shown at 2AM. You really think that ESPN is going to show games when they can show all the other American sports (even a rebroadcast)? No, we need the EPL to stay on a channel that is dedicated to football.

  20. Mark D. W. says:

    I would pay $50 – $100 a month just for E.P.L. Games in HD!

I CAN'T WAIT!!! HD HD HD HD HD!!!!!!

  21. bonet1 says:

I see Spanish League matches in HD on WorldSport HD once a week here in NYC, they look fantastic….so I know at least the Spanish League gets one HD game in per week, are ALL Spanish La Liga Games broadcast in HD?

  22. Jeff says:

This is fantastic news. We get to watch 2010 World Cup in HD on ESPN and then following suit, EPL & Serie A matches in HD. I really hope GOLTV can make the big switch to HD, to watch Barcelona play at the Camp Nou in HD…would be quality!

  23. juveken says:

great post. I would LOVE to see English and Italian games in HD, but I am completely satsified that they are available in SD. I love the channel.

  24. SteveM says:

Wait, I still have to wait 2 years? I'm not impressed. The consumer still wants what he wants

  25. Clive says:

Until we can get HD it would be really nice to at least get the 16:9 format.
The additional width gives a much better idea of what is happening off the ball.

  26. Sergio says:

I agree with Larry from Tuscon all the EPL games are all purchased from the EPL with commentators and graphics, etc. ESPN could easily purchase the HD feed and commentary rights to broadcast in the US. For all other games on FSC, yes, they'd probably need to upgrade their studio, etc.

ESPN does use commentators 'in-studio' since UEFA does not provide adequate commentators like the EPL productions does in UCL matches.

And to the remark that ESPN or ESPN2 would never broadcast games until late at night. I totally disagree, ESPN or ESPN2 has NOTHING on from 8AM-2PM hardly ever on weekends and especially not on weekdays during soccer months. If I was ESPN I'd say it would be a great business decision. Plus the NHL and EPL probably have the highest growth potential in the US.

  27. Arsewatcher says:

I echo the comments about the great job FSC does. I hope we get more games in HD like everyone else, and I am sure its inevitable once the HD infrastructure becomes more pervasive on both the provider and costumer sides. We just have to be patient.

  28. Tristan says:

I can’t wait to see FSC in HD. The biggest deal for me will be matches at the Emirates, that pitch is beautiful and the games are always big. Beyond that, I hope there’s some setup for Lega Calcio and Futbal Argentino, can you imagine those Argentine pitches in HD? Nevermind the crowd itself, that will be incredible.

  29. AJ says:

For two more year????????. I’m not satisfied with Fox Soccer Channel. I like way better ESPN, ESPN2 & Goal T.V when comes to soccer. I would like to see EPL and Italian games in HD.

? Douse England presently in HD EPL games?

    AJ.

  30. Justin says:

Of course, England has football in HD on SKY, BBC and others. All the major European leagues show games in HD in Europe. I have seen it in person when I was in an English pub in Madrid last April. They were showing the SKY game of Chelsea vs Man Utd in HD and it had a proper lead up to the game which is totally lacking on FSC. With FSC you get lineups and straight to commercial and come back right into the match. I was truly amazed at how good it looked in HD—-amazing ! I can’t wait for FSC and Setanta in HD but I’m not holding my breath.

  31. Jay says:

I really wish they would turn FSC into Sky Sports. FSC production is so cheap.

Also Setanta isn’t even in HD in the UK or Ireland so I doubt it’ll be coming to the USA anytime soon.

  32. AJ says:

    Justin thanks for the Info……

    All just an FYI……

ESPN’s Champions League telecasts last season were watched by an average of 255,000 households — even with matches starting at 2:45 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesdays and Wednesday (NYC). And starting in 2010, the Champions League final will be shifted to Saturday.

    From the news…

  33. Francis says:

Funny, just saw a commercial on Fox Sport (After the Spurs/Aston Villa game), which showed Sylvania TV’s in HD showing their NEW HD televisions. I sent a note to Sylvania telling them they just wasted their money :)

  34. ElStevo says:

Now if I can get my setanta games on cable, then life would be grand.

  35. Paulo says:

I moved to Chicago from London last year so I’ve experienced the EPL on both sides of the pond. Yes it’s great to be able to watch it in HD but what most people post here miss is the cost difference. I pay $7.99 per month for my sports package here, with Comcast, which consists of 15 channels, including FSC. In the UK you pay about $70 + $15 monthly HD subscription cost (depending on the exchange rate) for just Sky Sports 1,2 and 3 in HD, so quite clearly we’re getting a good deal here in the US whilst our friends across the pond are getting their pants pulled down. I’m sure if everyone was willing to pay $80 a month for FSC in HD they would be delighted to do it!

  36. Stephanie Logan says:

My husband and I upgraded our satellite television equipment to HD back in 2006, the better to watch World Cup. We have been paying a $10 per month HD fee ever since. The only stations I watch are FSC and Setanta, so I can see Liverpool matches/EPL/Champions League/Euro 2008, etc. If ever a sport REQUIRED HD to be properly viewed, it’s football. So we pay for a service we do not receive. Why are we charged the fee when only some stations broadcast in HD? I would be willing to pay a higher fee to get HD on FSC and Setanta, though it would be nice if I could get a deduction on our monthly bill ($100) for all the channels we do not need or watch but still pay for. Packages, indeed.

  37. Allen Guice (Man U 92) says:

It’s about time! Late even. The game while Beautiful, would be more so if presented in HD format. I would even go so far as to say that the enhanced visiual clarity will aid in the interest and overall appreciation of the game we Love.

  38. Nick says:

Looks like HD is coming by the end of THIS year!

    http://www.hd-report.com/2009/04/17/fox-soccer-channel-to-go-hd/

Fox Sports International said that Fox Soccer Channel (FSC) will have high definition programming by the end of this year, USSoccerPlayers.com reported today. “We understand that soccer looks great in HD. We recognize that now is the time to move on it,” said executive VP David Sternberg.

  39. Nick says:

By the way, FSC has the rights to the UEFA Champions League for the next three years, as it recently outbid ESPN. Definitely explains why they’re NOW in a rush to start broadcasting in HD.

  41. Nikhil says:

I think i saw the HD signal test during the premier league review show on May 25th 5:00 pm CST. I think it was during the Sunderland-Chelsea match highlights.
There was 1-2 minutes when the signal seemed to be really sharp, and the picture was not stretched. (I watch it on a wide-screen HD, and the normal FSC gets stretched). But for these 1-2 minutes, the players seemed of their normal dimensions, “taller” than usual, and the colors more brilliant. The FSC logo on right-top and the “EPL Review Show” banner on left top, also moved a bit towards the center (as is the case with all HD channels also broadcast in SD).
Then in right front of my it reverted back to their SD signal.

  42. Luis says:

I am a loyal subscriber to FSC. I enjoy the coverage of the Premiership,Barca TV And WPS. I think now that the matches will be in HDTV I will enjoy it even more. Thank you .

  43. John the Bruin says:

It’s one thing for Fox to offer FSC in HD. It’s another thing for Direct TV to carry it. That’s what I want to know. When FSC broadcasts in HD, will Direct TV have it?

  44. Freddy says:

This is long overdue…and still not soon enough, I’m surprised that UEFA would allow Fox to win the bid for Champions League coverage in the US without the stipulation that the broadcast be in HD. That is one of the major reasons UEFA CL was so amazing on ESPN. Best sport in the world, best athletes in the sport, best teams in the sport deserves only the best picture in the world. I’m extremely dissappointed that the Fox HD switch isn’t happening tomorrow (UEFA coverage starts on Fox in a little more than a week).

  45. Enorme Nuez says:

Nick Webster stated on ‘Fox Football Fone-In’ this evening that the channel will begin to broadcast matches in HD in January 2010.

Now all they have to do is sort out their identity and figure out if they are a channel for ex-Brits and whether it is Soccer or Football. Once they stop trying to pushing the British pub settings or a young kids bedroom they’ll get a wider audience. That and get rid of Keith Costigan and they’ll sorted. The man is too negative on any team outside the mythical ‘top 4′ of the Premiership.

  46. Bill says:

DirecTv currently has Champions League games Live & in HD on 461-469!

  47. Hugh McIlmoyle says:

stamford bridge looked sharp in hd, but i did notice manchester united are not featured in any other games which is a surprise.
There are still some great games on though. espn 2 hd

  48. Hugh McIlmoyle says:

these times are all eastern standard us by the way!

  49. Bill says:

I watched games on ESPN2 HD on Saturday and FSC, bouncing back and forth between the 2 channels. Big noticeable difference in picture and sound quality. ESPN 2 just came on board with HD right out of the gate and FSC are just planning to get with HD bradcasting. Borrow a feed from another Fox channel until you’re ready to go it alone. Get on with it!!

  50. thiam says:

2010 for HD Broadcast on FSC??? this is way overdue!!

  51. evablaze says:

hey im on board with you guys…….im paying almost $200.00 us. to my cable provider service….and hey i’ve also seen games on espn2 which is hands down spectacular…then i make the switch back to fox soccer channel… it almost seems to be playing mind games with me..wondering if im watching the same 46″ plazma 1080p hdtv…. 2010 way way toooo looong for an upgrade to fsc. hd…. until these golden age goonies choose to give us hd soccer…..go on chelsea….. go blues!!!!!!!!!

  52. waywithwords says:

No market for HD EPL? That’s ridiculous! If that’s their position, then they are simply lacking in vision (pardon the pun). And I thought that’s what Fox was supposed to have. Hey, we’re not taking about competing with the NFL here. If you broadcast in HD, there will be a profit, & it will eventually blow up. But nothing is going to happen as long as it’s only SD. Man Utd at Chelsea this Sunday in SD. That’s just a crying shame. I’m with you, Larry. NO MORE EXCUSES! The future is already here.

  53. Arjun says:

FSC sucks bad. It should have gone HD as of 5 years ago. I am willing to pay double the amount I am paying for the Comcast sports package to have FSC on HD.

  54. lou says:

Fully agree with Freddy’s post of Aug 21st. Surprised and dismayed that UEFA would permit the rights to the Champions League viewing to go to a non-HD network.

I guess it’s good news, bad news. I’m glad that it’s coming, but disappointed that it will take so long. HD/Non HD is like color/bw.

  55. ranndino says:

These days people take everything for granted. Rewind 6-7 years back and there was no way to watch football in the US, period! All you got was some US national team games and even those often wouldn’t be live. Either you didn’t live here then or you have a very short memory.

Now we have FSC, Gol TV & Setanta… even some EPL on espn2… you can pretty much watch football 24/7 and all you people do is whine that the HD is not here yet, there’s not a proper pregame show or that the studio looks cheap? You’ve gotta be kidding me.

FSC_Lover above got it right. Thank you FSC for everything you do on a shoe string budget. Most people are ungrateful muppets and don’t have a clue on how the business of all this works. Just because we love football doesn’t mean it’s profitable in the US. If you haven’t noticed yet most Americans don’t give a flying sandwich about this sport. It’s sad, but true. Try to be a little more patient and stop comparing everything to Europe where the sport is the undisputed king.

Lastly, some of you can’t even be bothered to scroll through the comments. As a few commenters have stated FSC will start showing games in HD in January of 2010, which means very soon.

  56. The Maniac says:

ITALIAN LEAGUE IN HD !!!!!!!! CAN’T WAIT TO WATCH MY AC MILAN IN HD !!!

    HURRY UP FSC !!!!!!!!!

  57. Andrew says:

Well…to all the wankers that are blasting FSC for not having HD up and running yet…piss off. Be happy, as I am, that we even get the smattering of matches that we do. I am just happy that I get to watch matches of any sort on TV. I remember waiting everyweek just to see the highlights of the EPL which was broadcast on Tuesday nights and that is ALL you got for EPL. Yes..HD will be nice…when it gets here. quit your bitching and enjoy the beautiful game.

  58. lloyd says:

“These days people take everything for granted. Rewind 6-7 years back and there was no way to watch football in the US, period! ”

Wrong!!! I was watching EPL games back in 2000 on Fox Sports World back when it was available on DirectTv (they would basically show the Sky feed along with the pre match bollocks from Andy Grey and co). In fact, I was sitting at home cruising through all the channels when, low and behold, FOOTBALL…..Holy cow! Since then, American Football has taken a back seat and I got to watch my beloved Spurs once again after a 20 year hiatus. My Dad took me to WHL when I was 8,9,10 before we moved to PR…anyway I’m boring you now.

foxsoccertv.com is advertising FSC HD coming in early January 2010. Hopefully Verizon FIOS is quick to pick it up.

  59. Roverbhoy says:

Italian League in HD? That’s like watching paint dry in HD.

  60. Shannon M says:

I am currently watching AC Milan play on Jan 7, 2009. The FSC has a banner up saying that HD is coming soon. I have Verizon FiOS in Lakeland, Florida. So what month can we expect this? I pay for the extra HD channels in my package. I agree with what the people say about FSC. Yes they are not in the big leagues like ESPN but I will still take it because we get to see a lot of games. Every time I watch the Bucs play in HD I am reminded while I love soccer because they play 4 downs and it is back to a 3 min commercial….haha Go Man U

  61. balrog newson says:

Do some history shannon, its not man u ! Its man utd!

  62. lost says:

what the f are you talking about balrog, oh, you must be glory hunter lol.

HD by the end of January i was told by my comcast rep

  63. balrog says:

LOST! Thats obvious, what im fn talking about is that its not manu, thats derrogatory!
its MANUTD ! whats the problem with that LOST?

  64. Olly says:

Honestly, they waited too long. I hope espn outbids for the rights to the EPL as they do thing much better than FSC. But also important is the showing of the early morning games. ESPN shows them but FSC has always refused to televise them.

  65. John Doe says:

    Hey Balrog Newson,

It’s actually Manure! LOL :) Up the Arse!

  66. balrog says:

Yes thats it doe! You got it right, scouser!

  67. Wes says:

I have to agree with Olly. The HD signal should’ve been up long time ago… ESPN did a better job. I also hope they win the bid, and launch a ESPN Soccer Channel. They could probably have the whole channel up and running before FOX has their HD channel set up. Also, why are they launching Fox Soccer Plus now? They should have all their resources working on getting FSC HD up and running…

  68. muazzam khan says:

Its nice to hear that FSC will now be coming on HD. but one quick question why FSC management not planning to make the conversion before world cup?

  69. jmansor says:

Still no FSC HD. What is going on Fox?

  70. hey! it’s official…fox soccer launched hd today, i called directv they said they’re still testing their new satellite and will add a bunch of new channels in the next month or two..so we still have to wait…bummer! i want my hd now!!!!!!

  71. V. P. Spasic, Clevland, OH says:

It’s great, great news…the best. But why are you teasing us for 6 months or longer.??

  72. Avi says:

Any news of FSC HD on Dish Network? Thanks Avi

  73. Lee says:

Well I’m willing to change over to the provider that FSC HD….I have verizon fios now so I’m hoping they will add it.

Anyone have any info on fios????

At long last, FSC began HD this past weekend. Unfortunately, I have Time Warner Cable (formerly Comcast) in Los Angeles, & had to suffer with SD. It seems DirecTV may be the exclusive provider of FSC HD here, perhaps since they are a sponsor/advertiser for the channel. I’ve checked with TWC and Verizon FIOS & they both say they have no plans to upgrade their FSC to HD. Does anyone know if DirecTV is indeed the EXCLUSIVE provider for FSC HD? Any feedback on DirecTV? They claim to offer the most HD channels overall. But FSC HD is enough for me, so I’m planning to switch over in time for Arsenal @ Chelsea this Sunday.

  76. Lee says:

Where did you hear the Verizon FIOS had no plans to ge t HD ?

  77. waywithwords says:

Their website channel listings don’t list FSC HD as available here in Los Angeles. I also called them today to ask if they planned to bring it anytime soon. I even asked her to see if one of her co-workers is a soccer fan who might be better informed on the situation. She asked around & said there is no word about Verizon upgrading FSC from SD to HD. Whether that has to do with this local area, I don’t know. That’s why I’m curious whether DirecTV has exclusive rights to broadcast FSC in HD. By the way, DirecTV lists FSC as HD — but does anyone from firsthand knowledge that it is already up & running?

  78. Juan says:

  79. waywithwords says:

Despite their sponsorship of FSC, & the advertising of HD during the programming, DirecTV does not yet carry the HD signal, at least in Los Angeles. As 3dworldcupfan says, above, they’re still testing the satellite & we’ll have to wait a month or two. So don’t be fooled like I almost was if you want to switch over to DirecTV because you think they must already be providing FSC HD. Not happening yet. Better late than never, I guess.

  80. Mike D. says:

Anyone in the NY area know if Cablevision has plans to go to FSC-HD anytime soon? The Villa/Tottenham match right now is DEFINITELY not in HD.

  81. Charlie says:

Bring on HDFox Soccer NOW !!!!!!! I really cannot believe that it is not available on HD when, while watching football, the commentators continuously keep saying: “Available now on HD!” It is extremely frustrating to us here in CT to not see Premier League Football on HD. Chelsea vs. Arsenal tomorrow? The commentator says that it will be televised gloriously on HD. NOT HERE!

  82. Allojohn says:

This is well and good, but as far as I’m aware no-one is carrying the HD feed. All we’ve got right now is the HD logo and the commentator espousing the excellence of HD viewing.

  83. waywithwords says:

DirecTV told me I can go to a local Best Buy to see for myself whether they are actually carrying the FSC HD signal yet. I just got off the phone with a a Home Theatre sales rep from my local Best Buy in LA who checked for me & reported no FSC in HD, it’s still in SD. As stated above, HD likely won’t happen until, at the earliest, March 1st, when FSC launches its FSC Plus Channel. At the start of the Aston Villa @ Tottenham preview show today, the host (whose name escapes me) said, “Welcome back to Fox Soccer Match Day which is presented by DirecTV. To get the most out of your high def TV, all you have to do is hook it up to DirecTV. Call 1-800-DIRECTV.” Well, so much for truth in advertising … I wouldn’t mind the wait, we’ve waited so long already, but why the deception? Why not tell the whole truth & nothing but the truth? Just adds insult to injury. Buyer beware.

  84. Mick W says:

I get FSC through Dish Network here in Minneapolis. Despite all the claims by Christian Miles, to certain games being broadcast in HD, they are definitely not. They may be a vairiant of HD but the image is full of artifacts, moire patterns etc. Unwatchable on an HD projector and somewhat annoying on smaller sets. ESPN, when it does show a game in HD does it right, so I don’t think its the UK feed. If it ain’t HD, take of the logo let’s have truth in advertising!

  85. Allojohn says:

The recently launched Directv-12 satellite will not be operational until the 2nd quarter ’10 at best, so we cannot expect to see FSC-HD from this provider until then. The hold up with Verizon Fios may be financial negotiations which makes me wonder if the HD programming may end up on the FSC-Plus as a pay channel? I had read somewhere that the plus channel was replacing Setanta. Anyone know better?

  86. Allojohn says:

    Thanks Gaffer, much appreciated.

  87. kaputnik says:

I hope this rumor is true!

    @GrantWahl (twitter) 2/8
Source: Fox Soccer Channel to be broadcast in HD starting this Wed on DirecTV/DISH. Cable systems? Not yet.

  88. Lee says:

    What about Fios ?

  89. Vincent says:

Why are soccer fans treated like 3rd class citizens in USA? What are we going to do with our expensive HD televisions if we cannot watch our games in High Definitions? All other sports are broadcast in HD except ours. Please Help us. Stop discriminating soccer fans!

  90. CaliforniaGooner says:

@Vincent: We’re not treated like 3rd class citizens. NFL, MLB then NHL. So we’re 4th class at best.

  91. Juan says:

Si es cierto y no es justo.
QUEREMOS HD QUEREMOS HD QUEREMOS HD QUEREMOS HD

  92. owen says:

Why are they saying it is available in HD? And have HD logo on the last Spurs game, but it is painfully obviously not HD?

  93. Mick W says:

HD is here, really!!!!, just watched the Aston Villa v Man U game in glorious HD on Dish here in sunny Minneapolis. Checked it out on standard HD TV and a 10′ HD projection system. Definitely better than standard broadcast but not quite up to the NFL experience. Yeah I know the cameras are further away but there still appears to be some missing detail, it’s a great step forward though and I’m well pleased we finally have it on FSC.

  94. juggernaut says:

Hey fellows, I just watched Barcelona vs. Stuttgart on Direct TV in HD! It was on MSG HD and CNE HD. MSG is also about to show the Man City vs. Liverpool game in HD and later today the Olympiakos vs. Bordeaux game on HD. On March 3 they are already advertising the 2nd leg of Chelsea vs. Inter Milan on HD!

  95. CaliforniaGooner says:

Barcelona vs. Stuttgart was in HD on FSN West (in L.A). At half-time, when the broadcast switched from 16:9 to 4:3 (and showed the Champion’s League trophy tour on its N.Y leg), the ‘side bars’ displayed “FSC HD”.

  96. Tim says:

After months of seeing a HD logo on FSC and more recently on ads for Setanta’s replacement FSC+ (which switched over this morning), DirecTV here in Las Vegas still broadcast BBCA, FSC and today FSC+ in SD. There’s nothing more frustrating and annoying than being constantly told about it being in HD yet unable to watch it.

I called DirecTV again this morning to get the same old BS about them working on it but they can’t give a date when it will be available. They’ve been telling us BBC America has been in HD ‘where available’ since August last year but still not here in Nevada.

  97. waywithwords says:

Tim, just in case this might be of help to you, if you really want BBC America in HD, Time Warner Cable added it to their lineup here in Los Angeles along with several other “free” (non-premium) HD channels (Comedy Central, MSNBC, NBA-TV, etc.) in Dec. 2009. However, still waiting for FSC HD FSC Plus HD.

Anyone receiving the new FSC+ in HD today (or FSC in HD)? I’m (along with many others, no doubt) simply waiting for the so-called forces of free market capitalism to swing into heroic action & I will reward them by immediately switching my TV dollar$ to whichever provider offers the real 16:9 1080 HD signal first. Waiting. Still waiting …

  98. Nikko says:

Why doesn’t Direct TV have this in HD?!

  99. Villa Fan says:

If you are thinking of subscribing to Foxsoccer.tv while you wait for FSC +, don’t waste your time or money. Signed up yesterday and haven’t been able to watch more than 15 seconds of any one match before I get the dreaded “an error ocurred when connecting to the server”. After getting absolutely nowhere with their live and horrible “support” (they are aware of the problem but weren’t able to fix it while I waited patiently for 75 minutes), I gave up.

  100. Bluebell says:

Foxsoccer.tv is definitely a step down from Setanta-i. I don’t know why fox which is a bigger company than setanta can’t get their streaming video service to be watchable.

  101. Why is the not so BIG FIOS is not showing the Foxsoccer games in HD when the SIDE BARS are showing it is comming in HD ?.
I called Verizon, but did not get any good answer. Maybe you can get a good answer for me.

  102. worldcup3dfan says:

directv is announcing a channel haul in order to make room for new hd channels by april 21st…it looks like they will launch a bunch of new hd channels soon, if they don’t include fox soccer than i’ll !@#$%%%%^

  103. ProfStack says:

I called DirecTV today to cancel the sports package. The sub-SD picture from FSC and GOL is horrible on the 52″ big-screen. I was told that for 6 months they will take $10 off the price.

The man said that the new satellite should be up and running in April. He said that the soccer channels MIGHT be upgraded to High Def.

So, I’ll keep the sports package for now. Sure is nice that ESPN shows an HD game once a week or so.

  104. Luis says:

Maybe its been asked, but too many comments to sift through. I cannot be the only one that thinks this isnt ‘HD’. The picture quality is still average and its not even the full width of the TV! God I wish ESPN in the US showed more footy.

  105. Diriye says:

Gol TV is going HD in August. Does it mean we have to go through the same BS as Fox?

“From day one we have led the way with HD and, to the dismay of our competitors, that has not changed,” said Derek Chang, executive vice president, Content Strategy and Development for DIRECTV. “While DISH Network is very skilled at grossly inflating their HD numbers, you’d be hard pressed to find an actual list of comprehensive HD channels that match their recent claims. We invite consumers to go to DIRECTV.com/hdchannels to see a list of all of DIRECTV’s 160 HD channels. We challenge DISH to publish a list of all their full-time HD channels so consumers can decide and count for themselves.”

In addition, beginning this June, DIRECTV will launch a suite of 3D channels, which will include N3D™ powered by Panasonic, ESPN 3D, a 3D DIRECTV Cinema channel; and a 3D DIRECTV on Demand channel.

DIRECTV continues to lead the industry with the most sports in HD by broadcasting exclusive interactive sports packages like NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ and NCAA® MEGA MARCH MADNESS™ all in crystal-clear HD. DIRECTV will also continue to add HD content to its DIRECTV on Demand platform. In addition, DIRECTV delivers local HD programming to 138 markets, representing 92 percent of U.S. TV households.

  108. CaliforniaGooner says:

Erm, right. I’ll bring this back on-topic.

Answer from Cox Communications (Orange County) on 6/23/2010:

“Unfortunately, there is no immediate plan to add this channel [FSC HD] to the line up, however, once it turns available it will be communicated to all our customers.”

  109. Tim Treacy says:

This sucks! Get with the program direct tv!

  110. Joey Kalina says:

We’ve got our FSC and FSC+ in HD on DIRECTV as of 5:02AM CT!!!

  111. jon sharp says:

FSC in HD on directv now!!! I have fsc+ in HD on the guide but no scheduled programmes for it yet?!?!

  112. Anony Mous says:

I think Fox soccer should have had it earlier because this is such a terrible that they needed some pressure to give us HD. Why is it that soccer has to get the worst of everything in America? We are competing with the world here, we deserve the best. This is the attitude in America that hate about soccer, it’s such a low priority to everyone.
