Konami has signed a deal with UEFA that allows the game creator to use all the elements and attributes of the competition to create an exclusive UEFA Champions League mode within the Pro Evolution Soccer game. They are the only game on the market to have an official deal to use the Champions League branding within their game.

The game will have a patch released that will add newly licensed teams and current transfer data. Konami’s announcement suggests it applies to the XBOX 360, PS3 and PC versions. The newly licensed clubs include Spanish sides Athletico Madrid, Sevilla, Racing Santander and Valladolid as well as 12 more teams for the UEFA Champions League mode (including Marseille, Juventus, Zenit St Petersburg and Basel). The update will also add proper Champions League kits and kit markings for all the clubs to give gamers a fully authentic experience. The patch will also update the kits and squads for many teams in the game, such as putting Dimitar Berbatov on the Manchester United roster.

PES 2009, the latest in the award winning series, is available on multiple formats, including PC, PS3, XBOX 360, PS2, PSP and Nintendo Wii. The game should be in stores shortly as GamingExcellence reports that Konami has shipped the game to North American retailers.
