Milito Returns To National Team
Genoa striker Diego Milito is making quite an impact his second time around at Genoa. For this type of performance Alfio Basile gave the former Zaragoza man a callup to the national team. If there were any doubts that about his worthiness to wear his country´s colors, maybe the win last week against AC Milan made them magically disappear. Milito´s decision was not going to be easy as he would be replacing the mercurial Germán Denis who ¨willed¨ Napoli to a 2-1 win over Palermo in in week four play.
Milito along with Real Betis defender Luciano Monzón are the two newest players to be called up by national team coach Alfio Basile for their upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against neighboring rivals Uruguay and Chile.
Monzón has been one of the outstanding performers so far in La Liga this season. His biggest came earlier this week when Betis headed into the Nou Camp and gave Barcelona all they could handle in the second half, eventually succumbing to the blaugrana 3-2. In that match, Monzón scored the first goal that put the boys for Heliópolis on the board.
Another call up that surprised people somewhat was that of Gabriel Heinze. Heinze looked to have been on the way out after his bust-up with Basile after being substituted in Argentina´s match against Paraguay. The Real Madrid defender scored an own-goal and played an overall hideous match against the Albirroja.
Manchester United´s was also forgiven by Basile and CONMEBOL reduced his suspension to only one match, making him eligible for the matchup against Uruguay. Tevez was suspened after a delivering a horrible challenge in the Paraguay that earned him a straight red card.
