DC United’s goalkeeping situation was dire when Louis Crayton the Liberian National Team keeper was signed a month ago. The Red and Black had recorded one clean sheet the entire season and had uncharacteristically lost all three games of the Superliga tournament at home. Zach Wells whom Crayton supplanted as the top keeper with United mixed some spectacular saves with mistakes of an amatuerish nature. Wells, whose performances seemed to always underwhelmed seem to get the benefit of the doubt from people like myself who simply blamed what appeared to be a pourus backline for the problems. But in fact it seems most of the trouble was caused by Wells himself in hindsight.

DC United enters the final stretch of the MLS season next weekend and has the US Open Cup Final Tuesday. The club is once again chasing silverware thanks to Crayton. In five appearances with club he has already kept three clean sheets, the most recent being a nill-nill draw against New York Red Bulls this past Saturday. Crayton has made 35 appearences for the Liberian National Team and came to United from FC Basel where he had spent the previous three seasons.

What are everyone’s thoughts about the Crayton signing? Can it be reasonably surmised that he has saved DC United’s season?
