Potential Upsets This Weekend: Bolton, Boro, West Brom

If you like a drop a couple of [your local currency] having a flutter on the football results, pull up a chair and let’s have a chat.  I like to look for value, rather than a sure thing, and here is where I see it this weekend.

Newcastle v Bolton – Away Win (@ 15/4)

Newcastle did well to come away from Old Trafford with a point, and they could have had all three.  However, I saw signs of their trademark defensive shakiness on a number of occasions, enough to suggest that Keegan hasn’t got everything figured out just yet.  Bolton looked good last week against weak opposition.  I think they could pull a smash-and-grab at St James’s Park.

West Brom v Everton – Home Win (@ 8/5)

West Brom hardly got a touch last week, but against Arsenal that’s almost to be expected.  They came away with a little credit for not collapsing completely.  Everton’s close-season problems don’t need repeating, and they were enough to give Paul Ince a gentle start to his Premier League tenure.  Will they hand the three points to another rookie Premier League manager?

Liverpool v Boro (@ 15/2)

Liverpool huffed and puffed against Sunderlands last weekend and only a piece of individual skill by Torres gave the Scousers all three points.  Boro conceded a lot of possession at home, but moved the ball swiftly and with intent given the chance.  Boro have a wretched record at Anfield, but with all the distractions that Benitez has created these last couple of weeks, they might never have a better chance of pulling off what would be the upset of the weekend.

So what do you reckon?  Are these three simply lambs to the slaughter?  Where is your [currency] going this weekend?

  1. WBA has always been a bit of a dodgy venue for the Toffees, I concur with the forecast – one nil to the home team. Newcastle flatulate to deceive so the best they will manage vs Bolton is a draw. Hate to say it but the red stealers will steamroller unreliable Boro by two clear goals.

  2. Boro gets a good share of upsets, but they’re always seems to be sporadic and in between a few trouncings. I expect them to take a beating this weekend.

  3. disagreed with the newcastle pick but otherwise you indeed were spotting value. so the picks might have gone against you but they weren’t bad shouts at all.

would love to see this kind of betting post on a weekly basis
