Aston Villa will not be touring the U.S. this summer due to their involvement in the Intertoto Cup. The Midlands club had made tentative plans to visit the U.S.A. for the second consecutive year, but will be playing important Intertoto Cup games instead in the hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Cup.

Villa will enter the Intertoto Cup at the third stage of the tournament. The first leg of their game will be played on July 19 or 20, while the second leg will be played on either July 26 or July 27. Depending on results in earlier rounds, Aston Villa’s likely opponents will be Odense from Denmark.

First it was Derby County that cancelled their U.S. tour. Now Aston Villa has done the same. So far, the only Premier League to schedule a game in North America is West Ham United who’ll be playing in the MLS All-Star game on July 24 in Toronto. Liverpool is still rumored to be touring the U.S. this summer although the Merseyside has been awfully quiet recently.
