• Drew Moor was responsible for both Mexico goals with some bad marking on set pieces. Yet I don’t believe Moor had an awful match. He found space and beautifully set up Jozy Altidore for the second goal. Moor also was good during the run of play winning several 50-50 balls.
  • Ramiro Corrales looked lost in the first 20-25 minutes of the match but began to read the game better after that and went the full 90 at left back.
  • Jozy Altidore looked lively and timed his run fairly well. However he still wasn’t on the same page as the midfield much of the match.
  • Oguchi Onyewu as usual against Mexico was simply outstanding.
  • Benny Feilhaber’s insertion in the match late helped the US midfield control the pace and settle the match down. Prior to Feilhaber’s insertion and third Mexican goal seemed inevitable. However Feilhaber doesn’t move well and looks either out of shape or psychologically beat.
  • Landon Donovan found acres of space out wide on the right side late in the first half, but Mexico made a tactical adjustment in the second half forcing Donovan to play deeper in midfield and thus taking him out of his game.
  • Carlos Bocanegra’s play tonight was significantly better than his most recent national team appearances.
  • After the match Bob Bradley discussed the situation at left midfield with DaMarcus Beasley out of the picture with injury. I sensed he isn’t fully satisfied with Bobby Convey’s progress and that he will continue to call 33 year old Eddie Lewis into the squad until Convey returns to his pre World Cup 2006 form for the National Team.
  • Mexico has more talent, skill and pace than the United States. However, the US led by Gooch continues to be more physical and is able to rattle Mexico when it matters the most.
  • Now back to my hotel for some Z’s
