What I’m hearing around the NCSAA Convention:

  • The US will play a friendly in Spain right before the European Championships. Spain needs all the work they can get after a rough qualifying group.
  • J.P. Dellacamara will be paired with John Harkes on ESPN’s MLS Primetime Thursday telecasts according to the scuttlebutt.
  • Luis Figo is NOT headed to MLS. Perhaps his agent was using MLS and AEG as leverage in Europe.
  • USL will announce a partnership with another English club in the next month or two. Crystal Palace and West Ham United are already partners of the league, while UMBRO (who has been sold to Nike) has a controlling interest in the league.
  • Brek Shea, perhaps the most exciting prospect available in this draft, and the only player I have tipped for stardom in this group was picked 2nd by FC Dallas.
  • Chris Albright has been traded to New England, thus freeing up approximately $165k in cap room for the Galaxy.
  • Another rumor is that Ecuadorian legend Agustin Delgado may be headed to MLS. Destination in the league unknown although I have heard Kansas City, Dallas and Colorado as possibilities.
  • More news and scuttlebutt as it develops
